Back by popular demand! Join Golandsky Institute Senior Director Robert Durso and Lecturing Faculty Yoriko Fieleke for a weekend workshop at Distler Performance Hall at Tufts University, June 22-23,2019. The workshop will feature informative presentations and hands-on problem solving sessions. Robert Durso will also provide intensive training for students and teachers of the Taubman Approach in an open lesson format for diagnosis and proper implementation of the technique. Highlights include: Applying the Taubman Approach to master the musical and technical challenges in select works of Brahms.

Physical and Musical Shaping, the unifying element! - Robert Durso

The Taubman Approach to physical shaping will be explained, analyzed and applied to a variety of passages from the intermediate to advanced repertoire. The musical results will be demonstrated to show the variety of nuances available when shaping is incorporated into a pianist's playing.

Interactive Introduction to the Taubman Approach 1 - Yoriko Fieleke

The basic principles and elements of the Taubman Approach will be discussed followed by demonstrations in short passages. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and try examples in a relaxed small group format. This lecture is open to new students and will run concurrently with Robert Durso’s “Shaping” lecture.

Introducing Interdependence of the Hands using 3 Scriabin Preludes - Yoriko Fieleke

3 Scriabin Preludes will be used to organize Taubman principals such as rotation, in & out and shaping in relationship to each hand. Voicing between the hands will also be discussed.

Building a Foundation for Coordinate Technique - Barbara Banacos

Barbara Banacos will discuss key elements of the Taubman Approach that raise one's awareness and ability to play with more ease and control at the piano. The talk will cover examples from piano literature at varied levels of difficulty.

REGISTRATION & FEES

$205 for the weekend (includes enrollment fee)

$135 for Saturday OR Sunday only (includes enrollment fee)

$50 enrollment fee is non-refundable.

Please register early. Space is limited. This event was sold out in 2 weeks last year.

A full refund less the enrollment fee will be given if cancelled by June 9th. No refunds after June 9th


20-minute “Problem Solving Session” (new students) or 20 minute “Open Lesson” (Taubman students)

The 20-min sessions will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a waitlist in case of cancellation. Saturday and Sunday “Open Lessons with Robert Durso” are currently filled. Please request to be on the waitlist.

  • If you are attending the whole weekend AND playing in one of the 20 min sessions there is NO additional charge (a total of $205).
  • If you are attending just for one day on Saturday OR Sunday AND playing in the 20 min session there will be a $40 extra charge (a total of $175).
  • If you are playing in a 20 min session AND NOT attending the workshop there will be a $40 charge only.
  • If a student is under the age of 18 and is only playing in a 20 min session (not attending the workshop) the parent is allowed to stay free of charge. 

45-minute private lesson (for new students)

There will be $145 additional charge for a 45 minute private lesson (a total of $350). 

Recording is ONLY allowed for the student’s own session/lesson and should not be published without the teacher’s permission.

Your registration is complete when the payment is received. For those who prefer to mail a check, please select that as the payment type on the online registration form. You will receive an email with the mailing address. You will also receive a confirmation email within 24 - 48 hrs of receiving the payment.

Participants will receive location, parking and restaurant information closer to the date. (There is ample free parking in the lot next to the music building.)
