One of the most common questions pianists ask is how to play arpeggios comfortably, evenly and securely. In this session Edna Golandsky will show the different motions involved, including crossing to and from the thumb.

From Bach Invention No.1 in C Major to Chopin Etude Op.10, No.1

It’s difficult to imagine that these two pieces have anything in common. However, Edna Golandsky will show how the basic motions in the easier piece form the foundation for the more difficult piece. She will explain the additional elements that are necessary to play the more difficult piece with ease.

Different Aspects of Staccato playing/technique

Staccato playing is often a cause for tension due to excessive shortness and overuse of fingers. In this session I will explain the reasons behind and demonstrate the correct application of staccato and its use for short and long distances. I will also show the proper use of staccato touch in legato passages with large distances where physical legato is not possible and where the correct speed of the staccato combined with tone production, physical shaping and pedalling results in complete legato sound.
