Sophie Till
British violinist Sophie Till is assistant professor of violin at Marywood University, and PA and director of the Marywood String Project where, under Edna Golandsky’s guidance, she has been developing the Taubman Approach for string players at all levels. The American String Teachers Association recognized Ms. Till’s String Project with its String Project of the Year Award 2009/2010 in part for the development of the Taubman/Golandsky Approach. Ms. Till studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Zakhar Bron and later completed a master’s degree at the University of Massachusetts with Charles Treger. Her interest in young players has led her to organize various international chamber music events for students and give master classes in the U.S., Europe, India, and Africa. She has presented numerous recitals in England and on tour in France, Germany, India, South America, and the U.S. She received the 2004 F. Lammot Belin Arts Prize for her project on the complete Beethoven Sonatas and has received four Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) awards. Her most recent PPA project is filming the works of Prokofiev for violin and piano. She has made several television and radio appearances for WVIA-TV and -FM with pianist Ron Stabinsky, including a three-program radio series on the Beethoven Sonatas and the opening concert, “More Than Encores,” for the new high-definition television studio at WVIA.
