Concert: Gülsin Onay

Come hear Turkish pianist Gülsin Onay perform at the Princeton Festival on June 21!  Ms. Onay has been a performer at the Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival in Princeton, NJ, in years past, and willl be performing at the nearby Lawrenceville School.  Program will include Beethoven's Sonata No. 21 "Waldstein," Op. 53, Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 3, and Preludes by Ahmed Adnan Saygun.  Don't miss this opportunity to hear this exciting pianist!

Come hear Rachel Cheung play in the Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival opening concert! Concert: Fr. Seán Duggan

Come hear Golandsky Institute faculty member and Bach specialist Fr. Seán Duggan on Monday, July 15. Father Seán Duggan’s extraordinary affinity for the music of Bach was recognized early in his career when he won first place, on two separate occasions, in the International Bach Competition. This summer he returns to Princeton to share his deep knowledge in a recital of masterworks for the piano, featuring the music of his beloved Bach as well as Beethoven’s most challenging Sonata, the Hammerklavier. The spiritual world always informs his artistry and illuminates his interpretations.

Concert: Miranda Cuckson and Yegor Shevtsov

Come hear violinist Miranda Cuckson and pianist Yegor Shevtsov in recital on Tuesday, July 16, as part of the Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival! Hailed by The New York Times as the “fearless” Miranda Cuckson, “a prodigiously talented, brilliant young player and superb violinist,” this artist makes her Princeton debut with pianist Yegor Shevtsov, who was recently singled out in The Miami Herald for his “superb musicianship and evocative piano playing.” They present a hugely varied program entitled “Sonatas,” spanning more than 300 years of music. From Scarlatti’s earliest keyboard works to the violin sonata of Princeton’s own Grammy-award winning composer Steve Mackey, this brilliant duo promises audiences an imaginative chamber music concert of unforgettable range.

Concert: Pavel Nersessian and Ilya Itin

Come hear Golandsky Institute faculty member Ilya Itin perform with fellow Russian virtuoso Pavel Nersessian as part of the Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival!  A star in his native Russia, where he is an “artist of the Federation” and distinguished professor at the famed Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Pavel Nersessian has delighted audiences and critics throughout Asia, Russia, and the USA with his impressive artistry and virtuosity. His playing combines the timeless qualities of the great “Russian Piano School” with his own uniquely creative interpretations. He is joined by his esteemed colleague Ilya Itin for a performance of Pletnev’s extraordinary transcription of Prokofiev’s “Cinderella Suite” for two pianos. This concert will be the most powerful display of two great Russian virtuosos ever heard in Princeton!

Come hear Golandsky Institute faculty member and Princeton favorite play in the Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival on Friday, July 19! Ilya Itin’s 2012 Festival recital was chosen as one of the “Top Ten Classical Music Moments of the Year” by The Philadelphia Inquirer. He was described by The New York Times as “a brilliantly insightful pianist who offered a superb recital.” Ilya Itin’s extraordinary imagination and powerful command of the piano have brought legendary performances to Princeton audiences for ten years, inspiring an enthusiastic following of devoted fans. This year he shares his extraordinary interpretive insight in the profound drama of Franz Liszt’s epic Sonata in B Minor. Concert: Berklee Global Jazz Institute

Join us for a night of jazz as we close The Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival with the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.  The premier ensemble of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, (BGJI) will perform in concert with guest saxophonist Marco Pignataro in Richardson Auditorium. BGJI is a program designed to foster creativity and musicianship under the guidance of artistic director, Danilo Perez. This specially selected group of young musicians performs internationally, producing original music and social projects in the pursuit of peace, intercultural dialogue, social change, and democracy through music. These extraordinary young jazz artists bring astounding creative energy and virtuosity to the final concert of the Festival. Jazz at its finest comes to Princeton’s summer music scene!

Please join Edna Golandsky for a week at the Gümüşlük Music Academy in Turkey. She will give masterclasses with Gülsin Onay, the academy festival's founder and a performer at the Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival.

Concert: Peter Evans Octet

Join Ron Stabinsky in the Peter Evans Octet at Jazz em Agosto festival in Lisbon, Portugal! Taking jazz ensembles into the 21st century, the Peter Evans Octet incorporates real-time sound processing with traditional instruments. These live electronics allow the group to change their sound fluidly from mellow tones to jagged rattling to cacophonous reverberation. The octet draws on traditional jazz idioms as source material and contorts them into something resembling classical European avant-garde—complete with complex rhythms played with pinpoint accuracy and confounding extended techniques.

These live electronics allow the group to change their sound fluidly from mellow tones to jagged rattling to cacophonous reverberation. The quintet draws on traditional jazz idioms as source material and contorts them into something resembling classical European avant-garde—complete with complex rhythms played with pinpoint accuracy and confounding extended techniques. The quintet will play two sets: one at 8pm and one at 10pm.

The quintet draws on traditional jazz idioms as source material and contorts them into something resembling classical European avant-garde—complete with complex rhythms played with pinpoint accuracy and confounding extended techniques. The octet will play one two hour set beginning at 8pm.
